On behalf of the Bellinger Valley RSL Sub Branch and the Australian Light Horse Association, popular local identities Kevin and Moira Franklin will once again showcase an ANZAC display inside Bellingen Library which will feature military items from World War I.
This year marks the Centenary of the Charge on Beersheba which took place on 31st October 1917 as part of the wider British offensive collectively known as the third Battle of Gaza. The final phase of this all day battle was the famous mounted charge of the 4th Light Horse Brigade.
The display will feature items from this period and includes two life-size figures in full military uniform as well as light horse gear.
Council’s General Manager, Liz Jeremy invites residents of all ages to visit the display and listen to the story of this historic event. “Our community are fortunate to have such passionate and knowledgeable people who are willing to give up their time to ensure that our young people can learn about our history and understand the sacrifices of war”, added Liz.
The Display will be held from 10.30am to 3.00pm on Thursday 20th April, 2017 in the Bellingen Library. Please telephone the Library on 6655 1744 for more information.
