Significant works have recently been completed at the Bellingen Transfer Station including concreting, re-asphalting, line marking and the installation of new compactor bins. As part of the ongoing upgrade works at the Bellingen Transfer Station the last stage of works are about to begin.
The final upgrade works will include removing the old awning and replacing it with a new awning that covers the new bin hoppers. The new awning will allow multiple vehicles to pull up under the awning and unload waste concurrently increasing the number of residents able to use the facility and minimising waiting time.
To allow this work to be undertaken the site will be required to be closed for two weeks. Staff investigated options that may allow the facility to be open on the weekend within this time period, but it was deemed a WHS risk, due to it being a construction site, and also that the compactor bins wouldn’t be able to run as the electrics are being removed and reinstated
The facility will be closed from Monday 21 August 2017 until 1 September 2017 inclusive.
To ensure that residents are aware of the upgrade works and to minimise inconvenience, a variable message board will be located on site for the three weeks prior and the two weeks during the closure period letting residents know of alternate options i.e. Raleigh and Dorrigo Waste Facilities. There will also be advertisements placed in local newspapers and information placed on Council’s website over the next four weeks.
