Motorhomes Meander Waterfall Way

Last modified: April 7, 2008 - 2:53 PM

Motorhome convey arrives in Bellingen.

Over seventy motorhomes and their 130 adventurous owners arrived in Bellingen yesterday (3rd April) as part of a convoy touring New South Wales.

The group, part of the Caravan and Motorhome Club of Australia, parked in town by the Bellinger River for a lunch break after exploring the Waterfall Way from Armidale.

Motorhomes ranged from small campervans, to luxurious ‘fifth wheelers' equipped for living a life of adventure and discovery on the road.

The group started in Nyngan in the NSW central west and travelled along Waterfall Way, stopping at Ebor, visiting the Dorrigo World Heritage Area this morning and pulling into Bellingen for a few hours rest and shopping.

Their destination is Nulla Nulla, west of Kempsey, where they will celebrate Slim Dusty's birthplace and meet up with other intrepid motorhomers.

The group intends to take advantage of Bellingen Shire Council's recently installed dump point at Urunga. "A wonderful service which attracts motorhomers and caravanners to an area", said the convoy's spokesperson.

Council will shortly have a motorhome dump point operational in Black St, Bellingen, adjacent to the Bellingen Showground.

Bellingen Shire Tourism Manager, Brian Stokes, said "Council's initiative to install dump points is part of a wider strategy to attract and engage ‘wanderer' caravan and motorhome visitors to stay longer on the Coffs Coast and explore the area more widely, bringing great benefits to Bellinger Shire business and community."

"Bellingen Shire Council is also assisting the development of a significant Plan of Management for Bellingen Showground, which includes a strong focus on the level of demand for caravan park-style facilities in Bellingen and the viability and sustainability of better servicing this growing market," said Mayor Mark Troy.

The CMCA's website confirms the importance of the market, with the club currently having over 51,000 members in 27,000 vehicles, and growing at nearly 1000 members per month.
