Atherton Drive Boat Ramp Upgrade

Last modified: June 27, 2008 - 3:16 PM

Council has commenced work on the Atherton Drive boat ramp upgrade.

Bellingen Shire Council has commenced work on the Atherton Drive boat ramp upgrade.  These works are a result of a joint undertaking by Bellingen Shire Council and the NSW Maritime.

The project is co-funded by Council and Maritime Infrastructure Program (MIP).

The project involves the upgrading of the existing Atherton Drive Boat Ramp by the addition of a passenger loading platform constructed adjacent to the existing concrete boat ramp. The proposed facility will be constructed over a section of concrete rubble previously placed to stabilize the bank. In its present form this rubble is a hazard to users of the boat ramp.

It is proposed to face the area with large concrete blocks, then leveling the area behind backfill with large graded rocks. The entire area will then be topped with a concrete slab.

The project was initiated by the Urunga Anglers Club, following numerous complaints by the many users of the facility about the lack of passenger loading facilities, and the existing dangerous conditions users were forced to endure when boarding a boat. As there are no designated passenger loading facilities at any one of the boat ramps in the shire the project should be appreciated by the boating public.
