Last modified: October 2, 2009 - 11:34 AM

Bellingen Shire Council, with the assistance of the New South Wales Heritage Council, has been successful in receiving funding to continue the Local Heritage Assistance Fund in the 2009-2010 financial year.

The Local Heritage Assistance Fund has been established to assist in the conservation and restoration of buildings or items that are of heritage significance within the Bellingen Shire Council area.

Owners of buildings or items that are of heritage significance, particularly those listed as being of heritage significance in the Bellingen Shire Heritage Study 1992, are invited to apply for assistance for restoration projects. Such projects may involve the repair or maintenance of items and can include reinstatement of missing items on heritage buildings.

Examples of works that may be financially supported by the fund include the restoration/reinstatement of original fences of significance or rarity, restoration of outbuildings or agricultural/ industrial buildings identified as being of significance in the 1992 Bellingen Shire Heritage Study (particularly those visible from a public road) such as timber mills, milk stands, silos, cow bails, workers cottages, commercial buildings in Dorrigo or interpretive projects at significant historical sites (where public access is available).

Applications closed: 24 July 2009

Work must be completed: April 2010
