Bellingen Shire Council, with the assistance of the Heritage Branch of the Department of Planning, will continue the Local Heritage Assistance Fund (LHAF) in the 2019-2020 financial year.
The Local Heritage Assistance Fund has been established to assist in the conservation and restoration of buildings or items that are of heritage significance within the Bellingen Shire.
Owners of buildings or items of heritage significance, particularly those listed in Bellingen Local Environmental Plan 2010, are invited to apply for assistance for eligible projects. Projects may involve the repair or maintenance of items and reinstatement of missing items on heritage buildings. In accordance with NSW Heritage Branch guidelines, funding may also be considered for adaptive reuse projects, urban design projects, interpretation projects and conservation management plans.
Owners of residential, industrial, agricultural and commercial heritage items are eligible to apply for funding. Examples of projects eligible for funding include veranda, awning and verandah post restoration, external re-painting, re-application of traditional painted letter signage on awning fascia’s/parapet panels or walls, restoration of original tiling on shopfront walls, restoration of pressed metal ceilings, roof or gutter replacement and relocation of air-conditioning units away from shopfronts.
The funds available are to be distributed in small grants on a dollar for dollar basis, with potential for a maximum grant of $3,000. However, amounts greater than this may be considered for larger projects. Larger projects may also be staged over a number of years. Potential applicants are advised that the works will need to be completed by the end of April 2020.
Applications open on Wednesday 26 June 2019 and will close at 4.30pm on Friday 2 August 2019. Notifications of successful grants will be made after consideration by Council's Heritage Advisor and Council.
