Eight Day closure of Darkwood Road at Plains Bridge Thora

Update 19 June 2018

Council is pleased to advise that rehabilitation works have been completed one day earlier than anticipated and Plains Bridge is now open.  This work site will remain under traffic control with minimal delays up to 5 minutes during clean-up operations over the next 2-3 days.

The community's patience and understanding during these works is appreciated.

Council will be undertaking rehabilitation works to remove the current load limit on Plains Bridge on Darkwood Road. The work will include replacement of 5 timber sill logs, 5 corbels, 16 girders and re-instating current concrete deck panels.

It will be necessary to close Darkwood Road at Plains Bridge located 16.1km from the intersection of Waterfall Way for an 8 day period.

Weather permitting, the road is to be closed from 7.00am Wednesday 13 June until 5.00pm Wednesday 20 June 2018.

Variable message boards will be in place prior to works notifying motorists of these upcoming works.

An emergency access alternate route is available via state forests roads which surround the bridge (Darkwood Road onto Orama Road, onto Yo-Yo Road onto Darkwood Road) – A total detour of 8.2km – 20 minutes,  and only suited to 4WD vehicles.

Council requests motorists and residents to plan their trips and appointments around these closure times.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused while these essential works are being undertaken.  Should you have any enquiries please contact Neil Bardsley, Bridge Coordinator on 6692-2914.
