Swimming Water Quality Testing

Council from time to time undertakes Water Quality Testing at popular swimming locations throughout the Shire. These tests only provide an indication of the water quality and are only a courtesy service.  The test results obtained are generally 7 days post sampling and only provide an indication of the water quality on that date. Water quality may change from day to day depending on influences such as rainfall, irrigation, native fauna, agricultural activities and general public visitations.

The test results presented only indicate the presence of Faecal Coliform Bacteria which generally originate from Human or warm-blooded animals.

During periods of low or no flows in fresh water systems,  or in tidal areas, water quality may worsen and users of these areas may wish to consider alternative options such as the publically provided swimming facilities operated by the Council at Bellingen and Dorrigo.

Historic results for the following area are provided to assist the general public in informing their decision.

  • Capararo's Hole (Gleniffer)
  • Jarrett Park (Lavenders Bridge)
  • Urunga Lagoon
  • Mylestom Pool
  • North Beach
  • Dalhousie Creek (Hungry Head SLSC)
