Experience the magic of the Bellinger Valley and join some of Australia's award winning authors such as Morris Gleitzman, Robert Drewe, Charlotte Wood, Arnold Zable, Alice Pung, Steven Carroll and the ABC's Richard Glover over three days of inspiring literary events.
Held over the weekend of March 23rd - 25th, the festival offers something for all ages including readings, panels, forums and feasts, workshops, multimedia, theatre and spoken word performances. You can paddle down the Bellinger River with a poet, go on rainforest walks with local ecologists or catch a wave at Valla Beach with legendary US surfer, Rusty Miller.
As the creative heart of the Coffs Region, Bellingen is home to a diverse, eclectic community and is a quintessential festival town. The country of the Gumbaynggirr people boasts one of Australia's most stunningly scenic drives and has inspired so many of Australia's' finest artists and authors, from Elioth Gruner, to Robert Gray and the festival's patron, Booker-winning author Peter Carey.
The inaugural Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival in 2011 was nominated for two awards, and achieved an almost nine out of ten approval rating from its audience.
