Justices of the Peace (JP’s) play an essential role in the legal system and provide a valuable and important service to the community and/or the workplace.
NSW Justice has an online public register of all JP’s where you can search by entering a postcode. The register lists all JP’s in that area and provides a telephone number for JP’s who serve the community directly. Visit www.jp.lawlink.nsw.gov.au for additional JP services. Please note that JP’s on the register are volunteers and may not be available at short notice or at all times of the day.
While Bellingen Court House has been temporarily closed for major renovations due to termite damage with an unknown reopening date, Bellingen Shire Council officers who are JP’s have been inundated with requests for document certification and witnessing.
Although having an available Justice of the Peace is not an obligation of Council or its officers, in the interests of serving the community, Council officers who are JP’s will be available from 8.30am to 4.00pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays (depending on individual availability).
Please telephone Customer & Business Services on 6655 7300 beforehand for an appointment if you have a large number of documents to certify/witness.
