Right to Know 2018 Champion - Open Government in Action

Bellingen Shire Council is pleased to be a Champion of the Information and Privacy Commission’s Right to Know Week 2018 campaign held from 24 to 30 September 2018. Right to Know Week marks the International Right to Know Day which is celebrated annually on 28 September.

Attacking Fireweed in the Bellingen Shire

Bellingen Shire Council recently partnered with NorthernAgri Services and NuFarm to run a Fireweed Information Day for twenty five participants.  Council’s Invasive Plants Officer and Invasive Plants Inspector gave a presentation on our activities to control Fireweed in the Shire, particularly on the Dorrigo plateau.

Developer Contributions for Secondary Dwellings Waived

At its meeting held on 22 August 2018 Bellingen Shire Council voted to waive developer contributions for secondary dwelling applications for a further two years.

Monster Mash Trash Playing Cards for Primary School Children

Bellingen Shire Council with support from the NSW Environmental Protection Authority and as part of the Waste Less, Recycle More initiative, has produced a set of playing cards with a range of messages to encourage primary school aged children to think about reusing, recycling and ‘mashing trash’.

Concern over Water Restrictions and Dry Conditions

With the Bellinger River reaching a flow rate of 45ML/day, Bellingen Shire Council has invoked Level 1 Water Restrictions in line with its Water Extraction Licence.  This is one month earlier than last year due to the Bellinger and Bielsdown Rivers reaching levels which cannot sustain current water usage. 

Bellingen Memorial Hall Receives Grant Funding

Council was delighted with this week’s news by Member for Oxley, Melinda Pavey MP that it had been successful in receiving grant funding under the Local Heritage Near Me Activation Grant to renovate and reactivate the upstairs section of the Bellingen Soldiers Memorial Hall.
