Bellingen Shire Council invites residents to participate in a community workshop on Thursday 20 September to discuss management and conservation of flying-foxes and the Bellingen Island camp.

Bellingen Island is a Nationally Important camp. Bellingen Shire Council have engaged Ecosure to implement actions from the Bellingen Island Camp Management Plan (CMP) including to:
- promote awareness and appreciation of flying-foxes, their ecological importance and conservation status
- to understand community preferences for reducing impacts through property modification (subsidies, buffers, fencing)
- to hear community preferences on how ecotourism can be run and managed in the Bellingen Shire around flying-foxes.
The workshop discussion will be based around the following topics:
Topic 1: Flying-fox ecology and your experiences with flying-foxes
Topic 2: Options for managing and conserving flying-foxes in Bellingen
