February 14th is Library Lovers’ Day and a chance for everyone to reconnect with their library to attend events, enter competitions and share your love of libraries and reading.
On Thursday 14th February there will be an event at Dorrigo Library celebrating both Library Lovers’ Day and the NSW Seniors Festival, which runs from 13th – 24th February. An intergenerational music event will showcase performances by both the choirs from Dorrigo Public School and from the local Dorrigo choir Elle’s Belles. Run in conjunction with the Dorrigo Support Centre, the singing will run from 10.30 – 11.30am, with light refreshments available.
Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga libraries will feature a range of competitions and displays. Readers will be encouraged to make recommendations on the books they love, and many of these books will be on display; a guessing competition will be run asking which books have been borrowed most in the last year; and visitors can go on a blind date with a book – being encouraged to take a chance and try something different like picking up a book without seeing the cover. It could be the start of a new relationship.
For those who haven’t been to the library for a while, or want to join up, this is a great time to come and learn about the new library services introduced this year such as Borrowbox for e-books and e-audio books; and Storybox Library – a chance to view stories, both at home and in the library by Australian authors and illustrators read aloud by great storytellers. Plus all libraries now have colour photocopiers available.
Competitions and promotions will run all week at all three libraries – Dorrigo, Urunga and Bellingen.
