Heritage

Council has identified over 350 items of local heritage in the Bellingen Local Environmental Plan 2010. Development that impacts upon a heritage item usually requires development consent, however certain minor or maintenance works can be endorsed via a separate process.

These Fact Sheets provide guidance to help landowners manage heritage properties and cover a range of common questions regarding what approvals are required, and best practice techniques for roofing, fencing and repainting . Council also retains the services of a Heritage Advisor who can provide expert advice where required, and runs an annual Local Heritage Assistance Fund that provides small grants for heritage maintenance projects.
