Statement of Business Ethics

Bellingen Shire Council’s Statement of Business Ethics guides how suppliers, contractors, and business partners engage with Council. Our approach is founded on honesty, fairness, and transparency, ensuring all dealings uphold the highest standards of ethical conduct.

Key principles include:
  • Acting ethically and in the public interest.

  • Delivering value for money while balancing cost, quality, service, and sustainability.

  • Avoiding conflicts of interest, bribery, and improper inducements.

  • Respecting confidentiality, intellectual property, and Council policies.

  • Communicating clearly and courteously, and adhering to legislative and procedural requirements.

Suppliers are expected to comply with these standards, ensure their contractors do the same, and report any concerns about unethical or corrupt conduct. Non-compliance may result in contract termination, loss of future opportunities, or other legal and administrative consequences.

For queries or to report a breach, contact Council’s General Manager or Deputy General Managers on 02 6655 7300, or externally via ICAC, NSW Ombudsman, or NSW Office of Local Government.
