Waterfall Way is part of the State Road Network and Transport for NSW (TfNSW) are the Road Authority. Bellingen Shire Council has been engaged by Transport for NSW under the Road Maintenance Council Contracts (RMCC) to carry out routine maintenance and specific road upgrade projects. TfNSW also completes work on Waterfall Way without the involvement of Bellingen Shire Council.
Bellingen Shire Council maintains approximately 80 kilometres of Waterfall Way under the RMCC from the northern Roundabout off the Giinagay Roundabout to the crossing near Montrose Loop Road (between Deervale & Hernani).
Current projects
Pavement Upgrade work on Waterfall Way between Cudgery Street and Hollibone Street
Work will be carried out on the Waterfall Way between Cudgery Street and Hollibone Street from Thursday 7 May. Work hours are Mondays to Fridays between 7am and 5pm. No work on weekends and public holidays. Work is expected to be completed in five shifts, weather permitting.
Traffic changes
There will be changed traffic conditions to include detours. Karabin Street will be closed.
Detour information for all motorists:
• to travel westbound of Karabin Street, the detour will be via Tyringham and Hickory streets.
• to travel eastbound of Karabin Street, the detour will be via Kurrajong and Cudgery streets.
Changed traffic conditions:
A reduced speed limit of 40km/h will be in place for the safety of workers and motorists. Motorists should allow up to ten minutes extra travel time.Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs.

Flood resilience work on Waterfall Way, Fernmount
Transport for NSW (TfNSW) will be proceeding with the flood resilience work on the Waterfall Way at Burdett Park, Fernmount. Work will be carried out in stages to minimise traffic delays during the construction period.
Project Scope
• road raising
• pavement widening
• pavement rehabilitation.
Work will be carried out on the Waterfall Way between Nicholson Street and Old Brierfield Road (near Burdett Park), Fernmount from 20 April. Work hours are Mondays to Fridays between 7am and 6pm, Saturdays 8am to 1pm. No work on Sundays and public holidays.
Work is expected to be completed in seven months, weather permitting.

Work Location
Waterfall Way, Deervale
Bellingen Shire Council are upgrading three sections of Waterfall way, Deervale between Fernbrook Loop Road and Corks Road.
Work commenced in July 2025 and is expected to be completed in April 2026 (weather permitting).
This work will be completed in three stages:
Stage 1: Whites Quarry, started work in July 2025, completed work April 2026
Stage 2: Meldrum Hill Started work in August 2025, completed work in April 2026
Stage 3: Yarrum Creek started work in October 2025, project is ongoing

Project Scope
Work for the upgrades will include:
- Drainage improvements
- Widening the road
- Installing or upgrading safety barriers
- Intersection and road safety improvements
Work hours
Work hours will be between 7am and 5pm, Monday to Friday and Saturdays between 7am and 1pm. We will notify residents adjacent to the projects if any out of hours work is required.
The project team will plan activities to minimise the impact of this work where possible and monitor any potential impacts so we can adjust our work as required.
Community Impacts
To manage safety there will be temporary traffic changes including reduced speed limits and lane closures, which may affect travel times.
You will need to plan for short delays at each location as they will be controlled with traffic signals. Whenever possible, priority will be given to emergency vehicles and school buses.
