Project Description

The new three metre wide Shared Use Path expands upon the existing footpath and Shared Use Path network in Urunga, improves connectivity and accessibility and supports additional tourism opportunities for the shire. The proposed alignment will provide a continuous walking and cycling path between Giinagay Way in the South of Urunga, the Urunga Wetlands, Urunga CBD and to the existing Hungry Head Shared Use Path.

Timeline 

Construction is expected to commence on the project in the second half of 2026 and is scheduled for completion by mid-2027. 

Funding 

Bellingen Shire Council have secured $3.37M in grant funding through the Federal Government’s Active Transport Fund Program administered by the Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications, Sport and the Arts. The program provides funding opportunities for projects that encourage an increase in active transport through the upgrade of existing and construction of new bicycle and walking pathways across Australia.
