Bellingen Readers and Writers Festival (BRWF) is pleased to present the Gumbaynggirr Story Telling event and two free children’s author events at Bellingen Library. The region’s much loved Uncle Michael ‘Micklo’ Jarrett will be back to take us on a journey through local Indigenous myths and legends. This event will take place at Bellingen Library on Saturday 11 June at 9:00am.

Due to the generous support of local doctor Trevor Cheney, Bellingen Library will host two authors for children. Trevor wishes to honour his father and these presentations are the ‘Ted Cheney Library Events.’ Trevor explained that his father would be thrilled to encourage any child to lift themselves into the world with their imagination through any form of reading so they may be enriched by this special skill that breaks barriers, offers solace, seeds ideas and takes you to outer (or inner) space!

Shire librarian, Rowena Sierant said, ‘We are so grateful to Dr Cheney for bringing the children’s program to the library so we can provide them to our community without cost.’

Leading up to the long weekend, Oliver Phommavanh will visit the library on Tuesday 7 June to allow children to attend after school at 4.00pm.

‘Oliver will have no problem keeping the kids entertained,’ said Rowena. ‘He is well known for his comedy routines and is a fantastic presenter.’

Some of his books include, Brain Freeze, Don’t Follow Vee and Punchlines.

On Saturday 11 June, following on from Micklo’s storytelling session, we have another children’s author at 10:15am. Shivaun Plozza is an award-winning author of books for children and young adults. Some of her titles include Frankie and The Boy, the Wolf and the Stars

Without a doubt these free events are not to be missed. All are welcome to have a yarn, engage with the stories and connect with our community.
