Bellingen Shire Council Elects a new Deputy Mayor: Ellie Tree

Council is proud to announce the election of Cr Ellie Tree as its newest Deputy Mayor, a historic milestone as she becomes the youngest Deputy Mayor in the Shire's rich history.

Cr Tree, a dedicated mother of three, a university graduate, and an active community volunteer, has demonstrated unwavering commitment as a youth and family caseworker. She brings a fresh perspective and a sound understanding of the concerns and aspirations of the Shire's youth population to the Council. Cr Tree is determined to foster increased communication and inclusivity among the youth in the decision-making process, marking a positive step towards a more engaged and vibrant community.

Bellingen Shire Mayor, Cr Steve Allan, warmly congratulated Cr Tree on her election to the Deputy's position, emphasising the importance of fresh perspectives in leadership roles at the Council. He stated, "It is always a good idea to bring new voices into leadership roles at Council, and I am pleased to welcome Ellie as the new Deputy Mayor of Bellingen Shire Council. I look forward to collaborating closely with Cr Tree as we continue to implement the community’s vision for our Shire. I would also like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to Cr Jo Cook for her dedication to the role of Deputy Mayor over the past two years. Her leadership and support have been instrumental in our Council's decision-making process"

Cr Tree expressed her gratitude and excitement at being elected as Deputy Mayor during the Ordinary Council Meeting held on Wednesday, September 27. "I am delighted to serve as Deputy Mayor for the Bellingen Shire Council. I am fully committed to supporting Mayor Cr Allan in this capacity and am eager to encourage greater community participation in Council matters," said Cr Tree. "I would like to extend my thanks to my fellow Councillors for their nomination and for entrusting me with the opportunity to represent them and our community for the next 12 months in this esteemed position."

Cr Tree's election marks a significant moment in the Bellingen Shire Council's journey towards fostering a more inclusive, transparent, and community-driven decision-making process. The Council looks forward to working collaboratively with Cr Tree to achieve its vision for the Shire.
