Council has been successful in securing funds from the NSW Government’s Coast & Estuary Grants Program to upgrade the pedestrian and vehicle access ways to North Beach.

As a part of the grant, Council will be rehabilitating the native vegetation surrounding the carpark areas, with the help of bush regeneration contractors and Landcare. This regeneration will be a three-year project.

Stage one is to remove Common Coral Trees (Erythrina x sykesii) from the regeneration zone. Common Coral Trees are an environmental weed, often growing in disturbed natural vegetation. It grows quickly and often causes other trees to fall over. The recommended removal method for these plants is manual removal followed by cut and paint with herbicide (glyphosate).

The first Coral trees will be removed by arborists on Tuesday 1 June in the area surrounding the entrance to the car park.

This may be a noisy activity and unsightly to begin with, but bush regeneration is a slow process, and we ask that the community persevere with us, while we do this important environmental work.
