Over the course of the past week, Bellingen Shire Council has provided invaluable support to the local community through a series of free grant writing workshops. Hosted in Bellingen and Dorrigo, these workshops, attended by nearly 100 local businesses, community groups, and not-for-profits, were specifically designed to equip participants with the essential skills and knowledge necessary to secure vital funding for the region.

In a bid to bolster economic activity and enhance resilience, participants were immersed in practical insights and strategies shared by experienced grant writer and Group Leader Community Partnerships at the Council, Maxine Compton

Reflecting on the importance of these workshops, Andrew O'Keeffe, Secretary Urunga Business and Community, emphasised the benefits of acquiring such skills; '' As a community organisation, grants are a key way for us to contribute to a healthy and socially active community.," Andrew remarked.

" The Grant Writing workshop was packed with useful information, with all the practical grant-writing experience of the facilitator condensed into one workshop. I took a note of at least 10 key tips that I will use next time.”

Council’s Group Leader Community Partnerships, Maxine Compton, underscored the significance of empowering community members with the tools and knowledge needed to turn their ideas into impactful initiatives; "Our community is brimming with innovative ideas, but without adequate funding, many struggle to come to fruition," Maxine stated. "Offering these workshops, and providing the tools and resources, helps to facilitate the realisation of projects that will benefit the entire community."

Workshop participants will have the opportunity to put their new found skills to the test when Council's Community Grants Program and Environmental Levy Community Fund open for applications on 16 April 2024.
