International Women's Day Breakfast Event

Bellingen Shire Council is proud to announce its upcoming International Women's Day Breakfast event on Friday 8 March 2024, from 7:00am to 8:30am. Hosted at Studio BMH, the new studio space at the back of Memorial Hall, this event promises to be a celebration of women's rights and empowerment, with speakers exploring the theme of Inspire, Inclusion and closing the gender gap by creating economic opportunities for women.
The event will commence with a Welcome to Country by Auntie Lisa Kelly and Tahahni Kelly, setting the tone for a morning of inspiration and collaboration. Renowned keynote speaker, Lorraine Gordon, Founder and Chair of the National Regenerative Agriculture Alliance, will share insights into empowering women through creating economic opportunities, emphasising the theme of inclusion. Lorraine's commitment to sustainability and empowerment, particularly through innovative farming practices in the livestock sector, offers valuable insights for women residing in regional Australia.
Following Lorraine's address, a dynamic panel discussion, moderated by ABC Coffs Coast's Fi Poole, will feature remarkable women from diverse backgrounds:
Rhiannon Mitchell - Founder of Saltwater Sistas, empowering young Aboriginal women and youth through cultural enrichment and mentorship programs.
Jenni Farrands - Aboriginal Education Officer at Bellingen High School, dedicated to supporting Indigenous students' academic and cultural journey.
Robin Ashley - Advocate for refugees and Social Worker in the Acute Mental Health Unit at Coffs Hospital, championing the resettlement and empowerment of refugee communities.
Magda Pomroy - Student Support Officer at Bellingen High School, committed to promoting mental health and wellbeing among our young people.
The International Women’s Day Event will also include a buffet breakfast, providing attendees with an opportunity to network and connect with like-minded individuals. Tickets are priced at $12.50, plus booking fees, and can be purchased online.
