As part of National Volunteer Week 2022 and in keeping with this year’s theme Better Together, Bellingen Shire Council together with the Neighbourhood Centers of Bellingen Shire partnered with a number of community groups to promote volunteer programs and activities in the Shire. Street stalls were held throughout the week in Bellingen, Dorrigo and Urunga and with the sun shining, it provided a great opportunity for people to stop and have a chat with our service providers.

It was a chance to find out about some of the many organisations that rely on volunteers and learn about what they do and how to get involved. The benefits of volunteering include learning new skills, sharing existing skills, meeting new people, being part of a community, providing a sense of purpose and having fun! Volunteering brings people together, it builds communities and creates a better society for everyone. There is something for everyone.

Some of the organisations represented at the stalls were Community Transport, Bellingen View Club, Dandarrga Landcare, Bellingen Landcare, Dorrigo U3A and CWA, Bellingen Community Arts Council, Red Cross and RFS Urunga.

“Volunteers make such a valuable contribution to our community in areas like emergency services, health and community and assist council in the services we provide like our tourist information centres, management of community buildings and sports grounds and libraries across the Shire. We are definitely better together.” said Bellingen Shire Mayor, Steve Allan.

Many thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers that make a difference in our communities, who give a little and change a lot.
