Public Art Plan and Policy

The Bellingen Shire is widely known as a place of beauty and creativity reflecting the Community Vision of being Connected, Sustainable and Creative.

Informed by thorough research and consultation, the Bellingen Shire Public Art Plan identifies and recommends a range of public art projects with a focus on proposals which are practical, achievable and realistically affordable.

Developed in consultation with the then Bellingen Shire’s Arts and Cultural Committee (A&CC), the public art components of this plan include:

  • Landmark CBD sculptures
  • Contemporary street art
  • Art signage and seating
  • Heritage pavement inlays
  • Temporary banner art programs
  • Pop-up shop concepts for empty retail spaces

Concepts proposed are considered low maintenance, cost effective artistic solutions to suit a wide range of locations. Naturally, all elements should be designed specifically for their individual contexts and address scale, context and design language which can be considered under the guidelines of Council's existing public art policy.
