Bellingen Shire Council has formally recognised the hard work and dedication of its approximately 170 volunteers at a recent Volunteer Appreciation Event held on Thursday 19 June at the Waterfall Way Visitor Information Centre.

The evening brought together volunteers from across Council programs to celebrate their invaluable service to the community. Volunteers play a vital role in delivering local services and building community spirit, from supporting our libraries and the Waterfall Way Visitor Information Centre to maintaining community halls and recreational reserves and assisting with events at the Bellingen Memorial Hall.

Bellingen Shire Mayor, Cr Steve Allan, expressed heartfelt thanks to all involved in supporting the Bellingen Shire community.

"Our volunteers give their time, skills and energy to help make our community stronger, more inclusive and better connected,” said Mayor Allan

“This event was just one way we can show our appreciation and say thank you for their incredible efforts throughout the year."

The celebration included a presentation of certificates acknowledging long-standing volunteers across all Council programs and Section 355 Committees, with representatives in attendance on the evening, for their ongoing work in keeping community halls and reserves available and open for the community to use.

Maxine Compton, Group Leader Community Partnerships, said Council is proud to support and recognise its volunteers through ongoing support and appreciation initiatives, and was pleased the event was able to go ahead after needing to be rescheduled because of the May flood.

“Volunteering with Council is a rewarding way to give back, learn new skills, and connect with others in the community,” said Ms Compton.

“There are a wide range of volunteer opportunities available across Council programs - whether you have a few hours a week or are looking for a one-off opportunity, there’s something to suit different interests, skills, and availability.”

Community members interested in getting involved can learn more by visiting Council’s Becoming a Volunteer page on the website, where you can explore current opportunities, find out what’s involved, and submit a volunteer application form.

Join the many dedicated Council volunteers who help make our community stronger and more connected, we’d love to welcome you.
