About the Project
The Urunga CBD Redevelopment Project will upgrade the town centre to improve safety, accessibility, and community spaces - guided by the Urunga CBD Master Plan and community vision.
The Community Reference Group (CRG) will help shape this project by:
- Providing feedback on design ideas and plans.
- Ensuring the local community’s voice is heard throughout the process.
- Supporting collaboration between Council, designers, and residents.
The Opportunity – Your Role in the CRG
By joining the Community Reference Group, you will:
- Help keep the community informed and share updates, improving awareness of the project across Urunga and the community group you represent.
- Act as a communication link, providing feedback from the community to Council, and from Council back to the community, throughout the project.
- Support clear, timely information - ensuring the community receives accurate, up-to-date information on the project’s progress.
- Help address community concerns, questions, or risks you hear from the community and work with Council to find solutions where possible.
Eligibility Criteria – Who We’re Looking For
We’re seeking people who:
- Have a strong connection to Urunga and its surrounding areas.
- Can represent a broad community perspective; this includes local residents, business owners, local reserve land managers near the project site, or First Nations community members.
- Are part of, or connected to, community groups, networks, or demographics, such as: young people, seniors, families, local businesses, cultural, heritage or environmental groups, and/or recreational users (e.g., walkers, cyclists, fishers).
- We strongly encourage people from diverse backgrounds and those identified in Council’s Priority Populations (as outlined in the Community Engagement Strategy) to apply. This may include diversity in age, gender, culture, and socioeconomic status.
Applicants should also be:
- Willing to work respectfully with others, sharing ideas, listening to different views, and helping reach shared solutions.
- Available to attend a minimum of five schedule meetings/workshops and respond to emails or calls to meet project timelines.
- Comfortable reviewing project materials, asking questions, and providing feedback at meetings and between meetings.
- Committed to acting in the best interest of the whole community, and declare any potential conflicts of interest.
- Supportive of Council’s key values: Respect, Collaboration, Integrity, and Communication. Please read the Terms of Reference(PDF, 400KB) before applying.

- Alignment with Council’s values of Professionalism, Respect, Team Work, Integrity and Communication, as demonstrated in the submission.
