Bellingen Shire Council received funding through the Essential Community Sports Assets Program and the Level the Playing Field Program for the improvement of the Drainage, Playing surface and Field Lighting in Connell Park, Bellingen.
The field works included construction of a drainage system to improve wet weather resilience and playing surface for the three main fields of Connell Park. The work also included the construction of a new turf cricket wicket and synthetic wicket. The position of playing fields was changed in Connell Park to best utilise available space.
Construction of field lighting included installing a smart lighting system to achieve competition level lighting. This has significantly increased usability and provided extended hours of use in Connell Park, targeting improved female sporting participation. Works also included the installation of access lighting between the amenity buildings and the parking areas to create welcoming environment for night users.
