About the Project
Bellingen Shire Council has secured funding for the upgrade of Short cut Road through the NSW Government's Fixing Country Roads Program which focuses on regional freight projects. Short Cut Road is a key road used for freight movement from the Raleigh Industrial Estate to other local roads and the Pacific Highway. The upgrade aims to improve the safety, resilience, and overall condition of the road, including widening and resealing.
Timeframe
Work commenced in late May 2025 and is expected to be completed in late September 2025 (weather permitting). Construction will be completed during standard working hours from 7am–5pm Monday to Friday. Out of hours work and road closures may occur for this project, notification of these works will occur via letterbox drop, Variable Message signs (VMS) and social media posts where appropriate.

Community Impacts
Road Closure
Please be advised that the southern end of Short Cut Road near the entrance to Giinagay Way will be fully closed from Monday 28 July at 6am and will reopen on Wednesday 30 July at 6pm (weather permitting).
A detour for local traffic and traffic from South Arm Road will be available via Waterfall Way at the northern entrance to Short Cut Road, please see the map below for location of the closure and detour.

Construction Traffic
There will be an increase in construction traffic for the duration of the project. Project staff have been advised to drive safely and be considerate of the local community.
Traffic control and short delays
Traffic control will be in place and short delays should be expected for the duration of the project. Longer delays and closures may be required from time to time; however, these delays will be planned in consideration of peak traffic flows and school bus movements.
Noise
There may be noise impacts experienced during standard construction hours from Monday to Friday. All attempts to keep this impact to a minimum will be made.
