About the Project
Bellingen Shire Council has secured funding for the betterment of Valery & Timboon Roads, through the NSW Governments Regional Roads and Recovery Transport Package (RRTRP). The Valery & Timboon Road project is aimed at improving the resilience and overall condition of the road infrastructure, including a more robust pavement construction and improved alignment.
Timeframe
Works are scheduled to commence in October 2025 and are expected to last for approximately 6-9 months (weather permitting). Standard working hours for the project will be Monday to Friday 7am-6pm and Saturday 7am-1pm.
A planned pause in the works started at the end of January 2026 as our road construction crews work on other priority projects across the shire. Works are planned to resume on the project in the second half of 2026.
Project Scope
The project scope includes:
- Vegetation management including targeted tree removal to improve road drainage
- Improvements to stormwater infrastructure including:
- Replacement of damaged or non-functioning pipes, pits, and headwalls
- Installation of new pipes, pits, and headwalls where required
- Widening and cleaning roadside drains
- Construction of concrete drainage channel where appropriate
- Rehabilitation and betterment of sections of road pavement
- Improvements to road alignment at selected locations
- Bitumen Sealing of priority sections of unsealed roadway on both Valery and Timboon Roads
- New guideposts to improve delineation and signage where appropriate.
Progress Update
Works are progressing well on the project and so far, we have completed:

Installation of a new twin cell culvert on Valery Road

Rehabilitation and Bitumen Sealing of two kilometres of Timboon Road from Hydes Creek Road going west

Road Widening and Pavement works on Valery Road from Pine Creek Road to Briggenshaws Road.

Some tree removal to facilitate road and drainage improvements. Consultation with an ecologist has guided this process to balance environmental protection with the need to improve road safety and connectivity. A detailed assessment of each site has also been undertaken by our Environmental & Biodiversity Officer prior to the work commencing.
Community Impacts
Noise - During the construction period there may be noise impacts experienced during working hours from Monday-Saturday. All attempts to keep this impact to a minimum will be made.
Construction Traffic - There will be an increase in construction traffic for the duration of the project. Project staff will be advised to drive safely and be considerate of the local community.
Traffic Delays - The works will be completed using traffic management. Short delays should be expected for the duration of the project. Longer delays may be required from time to time, however these delays will be planned in consideration of peak traffic flows and school bus movements.
