About the Project
The Kalang Road Embankment Restoration project restored the function of flood-damaged road embankment to pre-disaster condition. These urgent repairs were for embankment slips and other damage that in many cases could cause a serious failure and have potential for extended closures of Kalang Road.
Stage 1
Rockfill and Regrading Package (Stage 1) – works are now completed.
These works included, rockfill embankment strengthening of flood damaged slips and regarding of damaged embankment slopes to prevent future collapse of the embankments above and below the roadway.
Soil Nails Package 1 – works all now completed.
These works include drilling and grouting of soil nails into unstable embankment slopes to provide reinforcement, a layer of 'shotcrete' concrete is then sprayed over steel reinforcement.
Stage 2
Soldier Pile Walls Package – works all now completed.
These works are for major slips that require a soldier pile retaining wall to support the embankment, there are 5 locations on Kalang Road where these were constructed.
Soil Nails Package 2 - 2 more sites, works completed.
