Construction works in the Hill Street/Evan Street area are anticipated to begin in Early December. Stage 1 and 2 is expected to commence before the holiday break (weather permitting). Stage 3 is expected to begin early next year

About the Project

Hill street will be getting a fill road rehabilitation on an extension of works completed earlier in the year. Evans Street is a narrow residential sealed street in Bellingen. It consists of a single lane bitumen formation that is in very poor condition. Bellingen Shire Council’s Long Term Financial Plan (LTFP) recognise the upgrade of roads to improve the road safety, flood resilience and potential economic growth, and plans to upgrade Hill Street and Evan Street with a pavement rehabilitation including new kerb and channel (gutter).

The new road alignment for the turnaround at the end of Evan Street will improve the safety of the turnaround. Improving the drainage and alignment will improve the road condition which will result in less potholes and defects in the road surface in the future

Project Scope

Due to the complex nature of the turnaround bay at the end of Evan Street, a detailed design has been carried out for this area. The final design includes kerb and channel on the inside of the turnaround with a drainage pit at the low point connecting to the existing drainage system via a concrete pipe.

The new road alignment includes a camber to improve turning movements while ensuring safe access to all driveways is maintained.

The remainder of Evans St up to the intersection of Hill St will undergo pavement rehabilitation.

Community Impacts

Driveways: If you have a formed concrete driveway, your concrete driveway will be reinstated. If you do not have a concrete driveway, no additional concrete will be constructed.

Noise: During the construction period there may be noise impacts experienced during working hours from Monday-Friday 7am-5pm. Saturday 8am to 1pm. In isolated cases some works may need to be undertaken outside of these hours. All attempts to keep this impact to a minimum will be made.

Parking: During the construction period there will be additional work vehicles in the area. This may temporarily limit the available on street parking.

Access: Whilst works are progressing in the Council Road reserve in front of your property there may be limited driveway access availability. We will make all attempts to keep impacts to a minimum and onsite Council staff will communicate with you (or your tenants) on any potential impacts.

Tree removal: The Bloodwood at the end of Evans Street will be removed for the construction of the new kerb and channel (gutter).

Landscaping: All disturbed areas to be stabilized with topsoil and hand seeded with appropriate flora.
